Dian Sastrowardoyo and Putri Marino's Custom-made Designs
Acclaimed filmmaking duo Kamila Andini and Ifa Isfansyah made their debut on Netflix with the series 'Gadis Kretek,' set in Indonesia. The series tells the story of Dasiyah, also known as Jeng Yah (Dian Sastrowardoyo), who dreams of creating a tobacco aroma during the growth of the clove tobacco industry in the 1960s.

The series premiered its first few episodes at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in October 2023 as part of the festival's Indonesia special program.
For the BIFF premiere, SAPTO DJOJOKARTIKO created one-off designs for Dian Sastrowardoyo and Putri Marino's looks.
We incorporated Dian's role as Dasiyah into her signature look in the series by featuring a distinctive cut of the custom Bijou-colored velvet jacket. This one-off design is inspired by the traditional Janggan Kebaya, characterized by its high-neck collar, derived from the Javanese word 'Jangga,' meaning 'neck.'
Adorned with our signature #SAPTOJOPattern hand-embellished Reben motifs, Dian completed her look with Wastra Indonesia.
Putri Marino's one-of-a-kind kebaya is incorporated with cascading #SAPTOJOPattern Reben motifs and a built-in selendang for the premiere. Her elegant personality and style were integrated into the malaga-colored one-off kebaya made by our Creative Director, Sapto Djojokartiko. She completed her looks with Lotus Reben Drawstring bag.
'Gadis Kretek,' based on Ratih Kumala's novel of the same title and produced by Shanty Harmayn, is available for streaming worldwide starting from November 2, 2023.
